Review of Ombre

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Currently Preferred Option for At-Home Human Metagenomic Analysis

I collected stool samples to submit for multiple companies, including one sample submitted twice to thyrve (which is now Ombre).

I am giving Ombre a relatively high score for the following reasons:

1) Automated system for returning raw results (FASTQ files as well as tables of classified reads)

2) As far as I can tell, I think the thryve and Ombre results are comparable. The scores for thryve from the same sample were relatively more consistent than another company. What I can clearly say for current Ombre reports is that they were more consistent between new samples (collected at different times) than the other company.

3) I like the user interface.

4) There is a liquid for sample collection to reduce post-collection bacterial growth.

I didn’t give Ombre a perfect score because I am less certain about recommendations to take actions. Given that I have not tried any supplement recommendations, I am not sure if that alone is a reason to give 4 stars instead of 5 stars. However, there are some dietary recommendations that I could tell that I would not want to actively follow because of that recommendation. So, I think there probably is some room for improvement.

If Ombre provided a stool collector, then that would help for collecting multiple samples to submit (either to the same company or other companies). If only 1 sample for 1 company is collected, then the tissue paper is probably OK. However, perhaps that can also count as room for improvement for 5 stars.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe that I can provide links or provide my name (making it difficult to a suggestion of a Google search to find the specific details). However, I would certainly be happy to provide the public links to Trustpilot, if asked to verify my experiences.
