Recovery of portable hard drive

I reached out to John after visiting two IT shops which failed to recover my data. My hard drive had been put into a new case by the first shop that i went to which meant that the encrypted data could now not be read anymore due to the different circuit board being used. As soon as i explained what the problems were to John he instantly knew what the problem was and told me to leave it with him. John needed to find a like for like of my hard drive to recover the chip in the circuit board and decrypt my hard drive to retrieve the data. After going to two shops beforehand, I wasn't holding my breath that i would get my data back but hoped for the best! John assured me that it would be a 'no recovery, no fee' basis. After around two weeks, i received an email from John telling me that he had managed to recover my data!

John was professional throughout the recovery and was very knowledgable & I would 100% recommend Cheadle Data Recovery. Thank you for recovering my last 10 years of data!

Hello Laura, thank you for the review. In this case your HDD had been in an 'HP SimpleSave' caddy. Unfortunately the PC Shop had disposed of this caddy not knowing just how important it was. After some work examining the encrypted disk it was possible to identify the type of encryption as being based on an Initio INIC1607E processor. This matched encryption used in many of the Western Digital My Passport HDDs from 2009 and 2010. It was possible to emulate this processor and decrypt the data. You HDD also had bad sectors, so extensive disk imaging of the failed HDD was also required to get a good result. Best regards, John C. Reid.
